LAND REGISTRATION STATUTES, PRACTICE AND PROCEDURE EXPANDED AND UPDATED An appreciation by Elizabeth Robson Taylor of Richmond Green Chambers and Phillip Taylor MBE, Head of Chambers and Reviews Editor, âThe Barristerâ The publishers, Wildy, Simmonds and Hill, provide us with a very specific service with their formidable titles for both practitioners and for unrepresented parties in search of an understanding of any particular area of law. And so, it is with the registration of land which is generally misunderstood today, even by the experts and the computer literate. The author of this manual, David Rees, is a solicitor who is an Assistant Land Registrar at the Land Registry. He brings substantial experience to this work for his experience over the last 30 years and is well-known to many for his work on conveyancing and property law. This title is an authoritative source of technical and practical advice on all matters relating to registered land and interests affecting it and has a relatively wide audience appeal. What we found of great use was the bookâs alphabetical (A to Z) approach which gave us the ability to focus on a specific topic we have been instructed on, knowing that the manual gives us a most useful background commentary. Also, there is clear guidance on the form and content of relevant Land Registry applications of interest to Counsel and solicitors. As is invariably the case with Wildy titles, the topics included are, as the publishers say, âgeared to aspects of dayâto-day practice rather than academic areas of law â making the book more accessible and more relevant to the needs of busy practitionersâ. This third edition has been fully updated to take account of all the changes in land registration law and practice, including those introduced by the Land Registration (Amendment) Rules 2018. The manual includes not only the usual subjects we are looking for, but also many less frequently encountered topics which are often not covered elsewhere. Therefore, the coverage (fortunately for us) extends not only from transfers to leases, but from bare trusts to franchises; options to powers of attorney; and chancel repair to embankments and sea walls. The author ensures that each topic contains accurate commentary to aid understanding and provides clear guidance on the relevant applications which may need to be made to complete a transaction or protect a clientâs interests. The book also contains all the current versions of the standard form restrictions and the prescribed lease clauses, along with a list of Land Registry forms and other useful information, making this manual what we think Wildy intends as âan invaluable âone-stopâ source of guidance for busy practitioners of all levels of experienceâ, and that is what it is. This book enables us to research topics and deal with matters quickly, efficiently and effectively, which is always what you get with a Wildy title. The book was published on 25th June 2018.
